Did they get together at armistice Sunday memorial?

As you can see from this post, up until now, there has been no evidence linking any of the potential candidates for my unknown great grandfather (partner of Frances Eleanor Chapman) to Edinburgh.

You may recall if you’d read that post on the Pheby family, that one of the candidates for my unknown great grandfather is Edwin Daniel Pheby, and that he was in the military.

Edwin enlisted with the Royal Tank Corps in 1919, and was transferred to the 7th Queens Own Hussars in 1920, showing up in India in the 1921 census.

Thanks to a hint from someone called “PostcardsFromParadise” over on Mastodon, I did a search of Scottish newspapers at Find My Past for the 7th Hussars and several results showed up from the Edinburgh area. This would possibly link Edwin Daniel to Edinburgh! I’d searched in the past for “Pheby” and Edinburgh, but overlooked a search for the 7th Hussars.

There were about 80 results for that search.

One of those results was this, an article about Armistice Sunday, from the Edinburgh Evening News published on the 10th November 1924:

A memorial service in the Colinton area of Edinburgh would be a possible meeting place for someone from the army, and a restaurant waitress, pretty much exactly 9 months before the birth of my grandmother.

Regardless, this is the first time any of the Pheby family can be linked to Edinburgh in any way. I am definitely leaning heavily towards Edwin Daniel being the father of Beatrice now.
